As September draws to a close, it’s fair to say the new season has got off to a good start. Our Open Evening was well attended with a number of people interested in joining the club. The following week, professional Derbyshire based photographer Ian Daisley shared his work with us and gave some very useful tips, both technical and practical, on Black and White photography. A timely event it seems, interest in this area is on the increase as a new generation starts to explore this aspect of photography.
It’s always good to see wonderful images from people who are at the top of their game, and Ian didn’t disappoint. Something to aspire to perhaps, but more importantly to help us understand how to get there.
Monday the 21st saw the first of this season’s competitions as we held an Open PDI Competition. In case you don’t know, PDI stands for Projected Digital Image. Seeing your photographs projected into a large screen, is very helpful in analysing your pictures but also in seeing what your camera or camera phone is capable of, which is much more than most people realise. One major benefit is you don’t have to worry about printing or the cost of it. Good judges give will considered and expert feedback and in Dave Tucker we had one of the best. That old equestrian maxim … competition improves the breed … is still valid. If you have any queries about entering a competition, Steven Copeland will be pleased to help
