AV competition – 29/01/18

For a few years the number of entries for this competition had been disappointing. This year the number of entries were up, 12 in total, although there were only 5 entrants. The scope of the entry ranged from slideshows of photographs to music through to full audio-visual presentations with narration and a story. Some of the entries were about a ‘day out’, some about inspirations and some reminiscing. There was even a sing-a-long entry !. I didn’t know if ‘audience participation’ was within the remit…

Mount board and other art supplies

After Webberley’s closure getting small quantities of Mount board in Stoke-on-Trent has been somewhat more difficult. ‘The Range’ at the Stoke end of the road from Fenton has some art supplies. Normally when I go ‘up-anley’ I’m dashing around to get back to the train station within the hour. Last Saturday I had more time and on my way from Piccadilly down to that red logoed supermarket I came across ‘The Art Department‘ in the location of the old Sk8er shop. Dahler and foamcore in…

Cheadle CATS – Sunday 18th February 2018

For quite a few years members of the camera club have had the opportunity to photograph the cast and a performance of the CATS Panto. This year that opportunity is on Sunday 18/02/18. This takes place at the Cheadle Academy / Cheadle High School. Usually I provide 2 studio style setups. One is for the blown white background ( this is NOT high-level ) which I use to get the photos that they want. The second setup is usually a coloured or dark background for…

Practical night 12th February 2018

For the Practical night on 12th February 2018 we have two models booked, and the intention is to have two setups on the night. One of these will be for full length images and the other for headshot / beauty style photographs. This is to replace the one that didn’t happen earlier in the year due to the speaker’s wife being hospitalised in an assualt whilst working at a Hospital. Both Bella and Chris are used to working with a range of photographers and in…

Landscape competition and AV competition 2018

Just a reminder that we restart on January 8th 2018. The Landscape / Seascape competition is the following week so entries need to be in on the 8th. The AV competition is on 29th January so finishing touches, or, in my case, earnest creation, needs to be underway. One of mine has the working title of ‘Merlin to broomsticks via St Petersburg’. Another involves me doing some cooking !. Willhttp://www.willsphotoimaging.co.uk

Open Print competition – 20th November 2017

Our judge for the evening was David Venables DPAGB BPE4, someone who is quite used to knowing what a good competition image requires. His critique was focused and forward moving for each photographer who entered. Thank you David. This was the first competition of the year for new prints. The two previous competitions were ‘Best of the rest’ for last season’s prints that were not placed in the top three and a PDI competition. It was refreshing to see that all of the images were,…
